Gigaset DL500A, Siemens DL500A

Reasonably satisfied – gigaset saved the day. I purchased 2 of these to replace our aging amstrad em1’s that have served for nearly 20 years now. The need was for a system that could transfer a lot of phone numbers easily between phones (and our mobiles) and caller display of customers etc. The down side of newer technology is that the phones don’t work if the power is off. But accepting that, these phones are very comprehensive bits of kit. Had a small issue with country codes transferring from a microsoft outlook address book ( added an extra ‘0’ at one point for some reason)but the main problem was that every time the unit was connected to the internet ( in my case, just to update contacts via the gigasync)the time was adjusted to german time (+1 hour)there is no way of changing this on the phone, or gigasync (software to manage your phone info and contacts etc)however, following contact with gigaset in the uk, who i found very helpful, they informed me that this unit was never designed to be sold in the uk, however, this problem is easily solvable by connecting the device to the internet via the router (connected to the same pc as well) and either connecting to [. – which didn’t work for me, but talking to gigaset, they advised obtaining the ip address from each of the phones, and connecting via the [. ] address” which takes you to the management panel where time zone can be changed to uk. Also has some other neat stuff. You will need to enter the code of 0000 (which advisedly should be personalized in this system)so problem solvedif i have a complaint, it is that the maximum time for the anserphone to cut in is only 30 seconds, which is not enough time to get from one end of the house sometimes. ]

This phone is a truly quality product, the answer phone is superb, easy to use and configure once you have changed the language to english, which is not mentioned in the instructions, but gigaset gave me the code and was easy to enter. Software installed easy, and found the phone on the network and was up and running in a few minutes. If you are looking for a phone to help manage contacts then this is the phone, will sync all outlook contacts or vista win 7 contacts to phone is a jiffy. You can even add people’s pictures so when the phone rings you can put a face to a name. Adding dect phones is painless too; i have even added my mobile phone via bluetooth so can make calls from my desk phone through my mobile, no more `hot ear’ on long mobile callsso to some up best deskphone i have ever used, great after sales support too.

Are the menu options and voice in english?. I’m really interested in this phone but am just wondering if all the menu options / voices / instructions are in english (rather than german)?. It’s just that i read a review (somewhere) of the dx800a (which is the the dl500a’s big brother) where the reviewer found this out after he had purchased it.

Does this purchase come with an additional handset. Only querying as the title reads cordless phone with corded handset, but there is no mention of the cordless handset in the full discription.

Gigaset DL500A – cordless phone – answering system with caller ID/call waiting : A proper handset and the option of a headset. I bought this secondhand through amazon. The bad thing about this phone is that it does little more than the wireless handsets so considering its price (if bought new) it does not look like great value. The great thing about this phone is that it does little more than the wireless handsets so if you have these as well then the whole system is easy to use. I have a headset permanently wired in which is great as i can make calls with it directly or switch over from the handset whenever i want. The one useful addition over the wireless units are the six buttons down the right side that can be used for speed dial or to perform a number of preset functions.

  1. The phone is very good and fast. The phone is very good and fast. I am saying this because i saw some complaints that it is slow. Being able to sync my outlook contacts to it is brilliant. The problem i have is that it doesn’t support greek characters in contact names, calendar and internet services (e. It supports greek as the menu language but this is not good enough. You can’t update the phone’s firmware to support greek characters either.

Room for improvement on the software. This phone was better than i thought it would be. It has a number of really crucial features, like speaker-phone, answering machine, two-way recording, large address book, colour display for caller pictures. It’s got an ethernet socket for lan connection and voip services. It also has bluetooth for connecting a headset or mobile phone. You can use the dl500a to make and receive calls via mobile over bluetooth. If you use a dect handset, there’s no need to carry the mobile, as long as you leave it somewhere near the dl500a. The dl500a acts as a base station for up to six dect handsets and the signal travels pretty well without introducing significant distortion to the call quality. The software that comes with the dl500a is alright in as far as it goes, enabling synchronisation with the contacts folder in microsoft windows or microsoft outlook. Unfortunately, your contacts folder has to be set up quite methodically, or else the records are ported across in a jumbled form, with numbers where names should be and so on.

      1. Well made unit with good sound quality from handpiece and speakerphone (for some reason answer machine messages are not as clear)bluetooth connection to mobile to allow calls to be received from both landline and mobile to this unit and added handsets around the house – works well and is a very useful feature as the mobile can sit in an optimal reception area and you don’t miss calls. Could do with a battery backup to avoid loss of date/time etc if power switched off, and doesn’t automatically sync up contacts or clock with added handsets (gigaset sl910h)no issues with uk compatability.

One of the best phone i’ve used. I work at home using both the landline and mobile and was hoping this phone would integrate both devices. I’ve used similar phones in the past and have been very disappointed. However after only taking 10 minutes setting it up i managed to get it connected to my company laptop via bluetooth, my iphone 4 and a plantronics dect headset, amazingly they all worked perfectly. Call quality on the landline and mobile are amazing, i’m guessing because the iphone supported bluetooth 1. 2 i got considerably better range than the standard 10 meters range. If your looking for mobile phone and landline integration then i can’t recommend this enough. There is mac sync software available from the main web site, works great. I purchased this from soteluk, who supplied uk adapters and configured the menu’s and voice prompts in english.
