Grandstream DP715 VoIP DECT Phone : Affordable SIP Phone – poor software.

A bit tricky to set up as interface is not as intuative as it could be. Once configured it all works fine. Good volume and clear voice quality.

This was for my son who lives on a supported residential village as he has autism. It had to be specific to meet requirements and so far it is.

This works very well and with great ease. I can pack it up as it is small and take it travelling. The call quality although not the best, is really not bad and certainly not bad in the way i was expecting after reading some of the reviews before buying it.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Flashing blue light
  • Looking for a SIP phone, don’t hesitate.
  • Affordable SIP Phone – poor software.

Looking for a sip phone, don’t hesitate. . Excellent phone, pick the right sip provider and very cost effective. The supplier is extremely responsive too. All round very very pleased.

Affordable sip phone – poor software. . The phone is great – could be a little bit more ‘heavy-weight’ to give it a quality feel. Both the web and phone software is poor – could do with improving. Excellent call quality, and is light.

Great for outbound voip calls, but forget inbound calls for now. At face value, this is a value for money dect sip ‘phone. Outbound calls were easy to set-up (i used 12voip. Com as provider), but once in-bound calls were set-up, the problems started. Any in-bound call crashes the base station. After spending a lot of time (several weeks) raising support tickets with the manufacturer, running wireshark traces, installing softphone software for comparison purposes and so on i now have confirmation that the ‘sip invite’ network request crashes the ‘phone, as i described to the manufacturer. Right now, i can’t receive any in-bound calls on it until the developers produce new firmware, and i have no eta for that. I could send the ‘phone back, but the next-up gigastream ‘phones are a lot more expensive, and all i need is a single line device. It does beg the question as to how this product got to market with such an obvious flaw, unless the latest firmware that i used from the manufacturer’s website introduced the problem. Battery charging is also a bit weird.

Works perfectly and with interesting undocumented features. I’ve seen this before in some products – it’s probably designed to remind people that voip phones may not be able to dial out to an emergency number. Edit: i’ve had the phone for a couple of months – it has proved reliable. The undocumented feature only happened when i first started with the phone, now it behaves normally. No problems with this phone – highly recommended.
